Every detail on your product listing page matters. Put yourself in the shoppers mind and think: what listings are they drawn to? What is going to entice them to actually click on your listing? What sets you apart from competitors?

Did you know….
70% of Amazon shoppers never click past the first page of results & 35% of Amazon shoppers click on the first product featured on a search page.
Having quality images on your listing can turn a page viewer to a buying customer. Here we will share 7 tips on improving your Amazon listing images.

1. Follow Amazon’s Image Requirements

First and foremost, understanding Amazon’s Image Requirements will be your first step to success. When setting up new product listings, or optimizing listings from your catalog, you’ll need to follow Amazons technical requirements and site requirements. If you do not, Amazon simply won’t accept your product images.
Below are their technical guidelines:
  • File Format: TIFF (.tif/.tiff), JPEG (.jpeg/.jpg), GIF (.gif) and PNG (.png)
  • Image Pixel Dimensions: At least 1000 on its longest side, 500 on its shortest side
  • Color Mode: sRGB or CMYK
  • File name: Must consist of the product identifier (Amazon ASIN, 13-digit ISBN, EAN, JAN, or UPC) followed by a period and the appropriate file extension (Example: B000123456.jpg or 0237425673485.tif)
Also note: spaces, dashes or additional characters in the filename will prevent your image from going online.

Below are their additional site requirements:
  • Main image must be a photograph that accurately represents the product being sold
  • The image must be professionally lit and realistic, not containing gratuitous or confusing additional objects
  • Image must be in focus, with sharp color and quality
  • Product should take up 85% of the frame. If you are listing books, videos or music, the main image must be the cover art and fill 100% of the image frame.
  • Backgrounds MUST have a pure white background. No off-white
  • Does not contain additional text or graphics
  • Pornographic and offensive materials are not allowed
Additional images must follow similar guidelines. The difference will be that secondary images are able to be cropped (close-up), have varied backgrounds, and include text for infographics, ect.
2. Fill Up All Image Slots

The shopper has clicked on your listing and you need to sell your product (seal the deal!) Filling up the allotted image slots on Amazon allows you to cover every aspect of your product.
Include:
  • Lifestyle images
  • Close-ups or different angles
  • Unique features
  • Packaging (if applicable)
  • Sizing chart (if applicable)
  • A video
3. Showcase Lifestyle Images

Show the shopper how your product will fit into their lifestyle. These images are so important because they communicate the benefits of using your product and connect with them emotionally. Don’t worry, we mean emotionally in a good way.

4. Provide Close-Up Shots & Show Off Product Angles

Show your product from different perspectives and angles. Include close-up shots to feature the detail of your product. Doing this allows the customer to get a better feel for the product as a whole rather than showing just the front and back.

5. Show Unique Product Features/Characteristics

Even if you mentioned in your bullets and description some of the cool features your product has, you will also want to visually represent these characteristics. Remember, shoppers are likely unfamiliar with the product you are selling. Any details you do not show or mention will be a missed opportunity.

6. Packaging

Depending on your product, you may have high-quality packaging. For example, if you sell jewelry and you package the item in an elegant box, show the shopper because it gives the product a luxury feel. It may be a gift for a loved one and the packaging will sway the shopper to purchase that product.

7. Include a Video

This tip may not involve the quality of your images, but it does involve the quality of your listing. Videos promote your products in a way that images cannot. It’s like a lifestyle image but greater. Videos are great for customers with short attention spans and want to get straight to the point of your product. It is another way to bring your product to life.

On a Final Note…

Your product listing images can be the key driver for clicks on your listing. Taking the time to produce quality images can and will separate you from your competitors. It gives your brand a good impression and ultimately increases your sales.
